چکیده

Al-Cu-Mn is one of typical heat-treatable cast alloys with high strength which has been widely used in aerospace and automobile industries. The complete manufacturing process for AlCu-Mn components includes low pressure die casting, T6 heat treatment and machining. It has been found that the property in former process has been transferred to the sequent step with considerable effect. In this paper, a detailed study has been conducted on precipitation strengthening behavior of Al-Cu-Mn alloy under effects of casting macro-segregation. A plate of 60 mm thickness was prepared by using low pressure die casting and the chemical compositions were measured at different positions. The remarkable segregation was observed in the position close to the sprue. The yield strength and elongation in different aging time were compared. The results showed that the composition of Cu decreased from 5.1 % to 3.8 % through the thickness, which led to a decrease of the yield strength and an increasing time for aging, while the elongation appeared as a parabolic.

Microstructures and Properties Evolution of Al-Cu-Mn Alloy with Addition of Vanadium

The effect of the vanadium addition on the microstructure, the precipitation behavior, and the mechanical properties of the Al-5.0Cu-0.4Mn alloy has been studied. The as-cast Al-5.0Cu-0.4Mn alloy was produced by squeeze casting and the heat treatment was carried out following the standard T6 treatment. It is shown that, with the addition of V, grain refinement of aluminum occurred. During heat ...

SOLUTION STRENGTHENING AND AGE HARDENING CAPABILITY OF Al-Mg-Mn ALLOYS WITH SMALL ADDITIONS OF Cu

Nine Al-(1-3)Mg-(0-0.4)Cu-0.15Si-0.25Mn (in wt%) alloys with potential applications in both packaging and automotive industries have been investigated. Tensile testing showed that solution strengthening is in good approximation linearly proportional to the Mg content. Mechanical testing and microstructural examinations of aged samples indicate that Mg2Si phase precipitates contribute to age har...

Microstructure and strength modelling of Al–Cu–Mg alloys during non-isothermal treatments Part 1 – Controlled heating and cooling

A model is developed to predict the precipitation kinetics and strengthening in Al–Cu–Mg alloys during non-isothermal treatments consisting of controlled heating and cooling. The prediction of the precipitation kinetics is based on the Kampmann and Wagner model. The precipitation strengthening by the shearable Cu–Mg co-clusters is modelled on the basis of the modulus strengthening mechanism and...
